Add the Love to Your Employee App on Valentine’s Day!

Valentine’s Day is the perfect opportunity to share your support & recognition to your teams, no matter where they are. Here are five ways to show your appreciation to your employees using your Thrive employee app.

Whether your teams are all working together in an office, dispersed across various locations, or there is a hybrid mix of office-based, remote and deskless teams, your employee app can still bring everyone together.

Here's our top 5 tips on how to use your Thrive employee app to create some fun for your employees this Valentine's Day.

1. Find the Red Rose Competition

2. Make the Week about Employee Recognition

3. Valentine's Themed Photo Wall Competition

4. Turn Your App Pink for the Week

5. Organise a Valentine's Themed Quiz Event

1. Find the Red Rose Competition!

This idea will add fun with a Valentine’s Day Competition while also directing your teams to engage more with your app content.

Continue to publish your app content as normal. In the run up to Valentine’s Day, once a day, you can hide a few red roses within images across your app - see the middle screenshot below for an example. You can use this rose image below if you would like. It’s easy to do this, just add the rose to the corner of one of your existing images within your app content. Programmes like MS Paint or Canva will help you do this.

At the beginning of the week, create a news post and use push notifications to launch and promote the competition. You may also want to leverage your app champions, make them aware of the competition and ask them to help spread the word with their colleagues, they could even do this within the app by adding comments under the news post and using the @mention feature to alert specific colleagues.

Give instructions to everyone in the app to watch out for the red rose. If they find the rose within the content of your app, they simply need to comment ‘Roses are red’ within the comments section on that page and they’ll be automatically entered into the Valentine’s Day prize draw.

Throughout Valentine's week we will be hiding a Red Rose in one of the images on our newsfeed articles!

If you spot the Red Rose, simply leave a comment on that page saying, 'Red Rose' and you will be entered into a prize draw for one of the following prizes:

A dozen red roses
A box of roses chocolates
Valentine's day off

Only one of each prize will be given away and the winners will be chosen with a prize draw on the 12th of February.

We recommend having a few options for multiple people to win small prizes, such as vouchers, chocolates, hampers, free lunch for the day, a day off. You can come up with any prize that will work for you and your teams.

Finish your competition by adding a follow-up news post within your app sharing a photo of the winners of the competition receiving their prizes.

2. Make the Week About Employee Recognition!

Employee recognition is known to boost morale, productivity, and retention. Valentines can be the perfect little reminder for everyone to share their gratitude and support for each other.

At the beginning of the week, add a news item and make use of the push notifications to ensure everyone sees the post.

Header – Let's give thanks this Valentine’s! 😍

As we prepare to celebrate Valentine’s Day, let’s make this week about recognising each other for our efforts.

With Valentine’s Day around the corner, it gives us a little reminder that we should give thanks and appreciation to our colleagues.

To mark the occasion this week we’re focusing on recognition!

To take part, simply click into the ‘Virtual High Fives’ or ‘Recognition’ section of our app and thank at least one colleague for their efforts this week. This could be for helping you with a work task, giving you an idea, or even sharing their lunch with you.

Get your ‘thanking’ caps on! #cheerstoyourpeers #appreciation #grateful ❤️ 💌

Encourage everyone in your organisation to thank at least one person that week for their efforts, whether it’s for helping with a work task, showing initiative, and going above and beyond, or even simply for showing moral support when it was needed.

Another tip – ahead of launching the campaign you may want to have your app champions ready to start the recognition exercise by adding 5-10 appreciation posts to get the ball rolling in your app, and to encourage colleagues to get involved. You may also want to add an incentive like a prize draw entry for each person who added a recognition and the person they have recognised.

Follow up to this with another news post highlighting some of the thanks given to colleagues and share a few screenshots of the thanks given. If you created an incentive and prize draw for this initiative, you could share the prize draw winner within this post also.

3. Valentine’s Themed Photo Wall Competition

This is another straightforward way to add some Valentine’s Day fun! If you don’t already have User Content Publishing enabled within your app, all you need to do is create a new list within your Thrive.App Content Management System (CMS), enable User Publishing to ensure your teams can post their own content.

Before launching you might want to ask your app champions to add images in advance so that the photo wall has some examples of photos within it, and it looks busy when the rest of your teams see it. From experience we know that no one wants to go first, but if your teams see other photos added they are more likely to take part, plus you can encourage your champions to share the types of photos you want to get the tone of.

Add and push a news item to everyone to encourage them to take part in the fun by sharing a photo on the photo wall of something they love. This could be anything from a bar of chocolate, a beach walk, a friend, family member, pet, spouse, car, activity and more.

Tomorrow kicks off our Valentine’s themed photo wall competition!

All we need is a photo of something you love, this could be anything from food, locations, activities, family members, pets or more.

Share your photo and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for one of:

  • 1st Place - Instax Mini Polaroid Camera
  • 2nd Place - Afternoon Tea for two people
  • 3rd Place - A box of chocolates

We encourage everyone to participate however, if you don't feel like taking part, you can still get involved by liking your favourite post.

The winners will be announced on the 20th of Feb 2023 and will be based on the number of likes your photo gets from the team!

Good luck and happy Valentine’s!

This is a great way to build connections across your teams and really get to know each other on a more personal level. It also increases the overall engagement in your app content and drives lots of fun.

Keeping with the Valentine’s theme of LOVE, the winner can be chosen based on the number of likes they got on their post.  Check out your Insights dashboard to see the engagement and interactions across each entry.

You could instead add all photo wall entries into a prize draw if you’d prefer that approach.

If you’re unsure how to enable User Generated Content within your Thrive employee app, check out the Learning Tracks section within your Thrive.App CMS. There is a step-by-step process here which should take less than ten minutes.

Finish your competition by adding a follow-up news post within your app sharing the winning photos.

4. Turn Your App Pink for the Week

Change your app menu and title bar colour to red or pink and add a little Valentine’s emoji! ❤️

This is easy to do and works well alongside other Valentine’s themed ideas. In the Thrive.App CMS, click on Branding in the menu on the left of the screen, then enter the Hex value of the colour you want, then press Save and Publish Now.

5. Organise a Valentine’s Themed Quiz Event

Your Thrive employee app is an easy-to-use, accessible tool for arranging events and competitions. You can even offer RSVP reservations for events (with or without restricted spaces) and give everyone access to the competition through our Acknowledgements feature.

Create a news post inviting everyone to a virtual Valentine’s themed quiz and ask them to RSVP via the Acknowledgments feature.

If you’re unsure how to enable Acknowledgements within your Thrive employee app, check out the Learning Tracks section within your Thrive.App CMS. There is a step-by-step process here which should take less than ten minutes.

Acknowledgements

Alternatively, if you don't want to host a live quiz, you can create an in-app quiz that employees can complete anytime, using a third-party site, like Typeform or Surveymonkey, then either embed it on a page using HTML or simply add it to your app as a Web Page in a list.

We’ve created an example quiz using TypeForm here.

If you’re not familiar with setting up a quiz like this in TypeForm and if you’re interested in added one to your Thrive employee app, we can set one up like this for you, personalising it, adding fields for your employees to enter their details to win a prize or add a couple of your own questions to it. Just contact support@thrive.app and we’ll have this set up for you.

To finish your competition add a follow-up news post within your app sharing the names and photos of the winners with their prizes.
