Four Ways to Turn Your Employee App Green This St. Patrick’s Day!

Did you know that Thrive.App is based in Belfast, Northern Ireland? St. Patrick's Day is celebrated all around the world on the 17th of March, so why not paint your app green for the occasion and add some St. Patrick’s Day fun for your employees?

Using annual events like St. Patrick’s Day to bring a bit of light-heartedness to your employee app is a great way to increase engagement and show your teams that it doesn’t have to be ‘all business, all the time.’

Here are four ideas to hopefully spark some inspiration:

1. Turn Your App Green

2. St. Patrick's Day Themed Photo Wall Competition

3. Organise a St. Patrick's Day Themed Quiz Event

4. Find the Green Shamrock

1. Turn Your App Green...Literally

Change your app menu and title bar colour to green and add a little☘️emoji!

This is easy to do and works well alongside the below ideas. In your Thrive.App Content Management System (CMS), all you need to do is click on Branding in the menu on the left of the screen, then enter the Hex value of the colour you want, then press Save and Publish Now.

We've used this Hex value: #229510

2. St. Patrick's Day Themed Photo Wall Competition

An event like St. Patrick’s Day is a perfect opportunity to add UGC (User Generated Content).

If you don’t already have User Content Publishing enabled within your app, all you need to do is create a new list within your CMS, enable User Publishing to ensure your teams can post their own content.

Before launching your photo wall competition, you might want to ask your App Champions to add images in advance so that the photo wall has some examples of photos within it, and it looks busy when the rest of your teams see it. From experience we know that no one wants to go first, but if your teams see other photos added they are more likely to take part, plus you can encourage your app champions to share the types of photos you want to get the tone of.

Add and push a news item to everyone to encourage them to take part in the fun by sharing a St. Patrick’s Day themed photo to your app’s photo wall.

If you have some budget available, you could even run a competition with an incentive. ‘Whichever pic gets the most likes or comments is the winner’ is a good way to get your employees liking and commenting in the app and interacting more with the content!

Tomorrow kicks off our St. Patrick’s Day themed photo wall competition!

All we need is a photo of you celebrating St. Patrick's Day or something that represents St. Patrick’s Day.

Share your photo and you’ll be entered into a prize draw for one of:

  • 1st Place - Instax Mini Polaroid Camera
  • 2nd Place – Dinner for two vouchers for your local restaurant
  • 3rd Place – £20 Amazon voucher

We encourage everyone to participate, however, if you don't want to take part, you can still get involved by liking your favourite post.

The winners will be announced on Monday 20th March 2023 and will be based on the number of likes your photo gets from the team!

Good luck and happy St. Patrick’s Day!

Photo wall competitions are a fantastic way to build connection and interaction across your teams. They also increase the overall engagement in your app content and create lots of fun.

The winner can be chosen based on the number of likes they got on their post. Check out your Insights dashboard to see the engagement and interactions across each entry.

You could instead add all photo wall entries into a prize draw if you’d prefer that approach.

If you’re unsure how to enable User Generated Content within your Thrive employee app, check out the Learning Tracks section within your Thrive.App CMS. There is a step-by-step process here which should take less than ten minutes.

Finish your competition by adding a follow-up news post within your app sharing the winning photos.

3. Organise a St. Patrick's Day Themed Quiz Event

Your Thrive employee app is an easy-to-use, accessible tool for arranging events and competitions. You can even offer RSVP reservations for events (with or without restricted spaces) and give everyone access to the competition through our Acknowledgements feature

Create a news post inviting everyone to a virtual St. Patrick’s Day themed quiz and ask them to RSVP via the Acknowledgments feature.

St. Patrick's Day is on its way! We know how much fun our themed quizzes have been in the past, so, we've organised a St. Patrick's Day quiz this month.

Brush up on your St. Patrick's Day knowledge as this event will take place on Thursday 16th March at 1pm via Zoom. A link to the meeting room will be sent out to all who RSVP before 11am tomorrow.

There will be spot prizes during the event.

Please RSVP today. May the luck of the Irish shine on you!

Alternatively, if you don't want to host a live quiz, you can create an in-app quiz that employees can complete anytime, using a third-party site, like Typeform or SurveyMonkey, then either embed it on a page using HTML or simply add it to your app as a Web Page in a list.

We’ve created an example quiz using Typeform here.

If you’re not familiar with setting up a quiz like this in Typeform and if you’re interested in adding one to your app, we can set one up like this for you, personalising it, adding fields for your employees to enter their details to win a prize or add a couple of your own questions to it. Just contact support@thrive.app and we’ll have this set up for you.

To finish your competition, add a follow-up news post within your app sharing the names and photos of the winners with their prizes.

4. Find the Green Shamrock

This idea will add some fun with a St. Patrick’s Day Competition while also encouraging your teams to engage more with your app content.

Continue to publish your app content as normal. In the run up to St. Patrick’s Day, once a day, you can hide a few green shamrocks within images across your app - see the middle screenshot below for an example. You can use this shamrock image below if you would like. It’s easy to do this, just add the shamrock to the corner of one of your existing images within your app content. Programmes like MS Paint or Canva will help you do this.

At the beginning of the week, create a news post and use push notifications to launch and promote the competition. You may also want to leverage your app champions, make them aware of the competition and ask them to help spread the word with their colleagues. They could even do this within the app by adding comments under the news post and using the @mention feature to alert specific colleagues.

Give instructions to everyone in the app to watch out for the green shamrocks. If they find the shamrock within the content of your app, they simply need to comment ‘Happy St. Patrick's Day’ within the comments section on that page and they’ll be automatically entered into the St. Patrick’s Day prize draw.

We’ve provided a sample post below to make it easier for you to copy and paste this into your app and tailor it to suit your teams. We’ve also included the image of the shamrock here for you to download.

Header - Find the Green Shamrock!

Throughout this week we will be hiding some green shamrocks in one of the images on our newsfeed articles!

If you spot the shamrocks, simply leave a comment on that page saying, 'Happy St. Patrick’s Day' and you will be entered into a prize draw for one of the following prizes:

  • 1st Place – £50 vouchers of your choice
  • 2nd Place – An extra day off
  • 3rd Place – An afternoon tea hamper

Only one of each prize will be given away and the winners will be chosen with a prize draw on the 20th of March.

We recommend having a few options for multiple people to win small prizes, such as vouchers, chocolates, hampers, free lunch for the day, or a day off. You can come up with any prize that will work for you and your teams.

Finish your competition by adding a follow-up news post within your app sharing a photo of the winners of the competition receiving their prizes.
