Three Ways to Turn Your App Green This St. Patrick's Day

Using annual events like St. Patrick’s day to bring a bit of light-heartedness to your employee communications app is a great way to increase engagement and show your teams that it doesn’t have to be ‘all business, all the time’.

Did you know that Thrive is an Irish company? We’re based in Belfast, Northern Ireland but St. Patrick's day is celebrated all around the world on the 17th March, so why not paint your app green this St. Patrick’s day?

Using annual events like St. Patrick’s day to bring a bit of light-heartedness to your employee app is a great way to increase engagement and show your teams that it doesn’t have to be ‘all business, all the time’. Here are three ideas to hopefully spark some inspiration:

#1 Turn Your App Green...Literally.

Change your app menu and title bar colour to green and add a little☘️emoji!

This is super easy to do, and works well alongside one of the below ideas. In the CMS, all you have to do is click on Branding in the menu on the left of the screen, then enter the Hex value of the colour you want, then press Save and Publish Now (Available for custom branded app customers only).

#2 Have a St. Patrick's Day Themed User Generated Content List.

UGC always works best when it's 'themed' and you make it really clear to employees what kind of pictures you want them to share. We recommend changing your UGC theme regularly so that you have Easter Photos, Summer holiday photos, Halloween party photos etc rather than just 'Share Your Photos' which makes it harder for employees to know what kind of photos are worth posting.

An event like St. Patrick’s day is a perfect opportunity to have some fun in your app with User Generated Content. You could create a new list on your app home screen, and call it something like ‘Send us your St. Paddy’s day at home celebration pics’. Use the List Type tab to open up the list for user publishing, and it will allow your users to post there directly from the app!

If you have some budget available, you could even run a competition with an incentive. ‘Whichever pic gets the most likes or comments is the winner’ - this is a good way to get your employees liking and commenting in the app and interacting more with the content!

#3 Run a St. Patrick's Day Quiz or Competition

Quizzes are a great way to give your teams some interesting and engaging content. With our new Acknowledgements feature you can create a competition that employees can enter directly from the app.

You can create the quiz itself on a third party site, like Typeform or Surveymonkey, then either embed it on a page using HTML or simply add it to your app as a Web Page in a list.

Or if you want a pre-made one ready to go, then use this one! Click the link to see it.

Simply copy this link and add it as a web page to your app, within a list. If you want, we can even duplicate this one and personalise it a bit for you - add fields for your employees to enter their details to win a prize, or add a couple of your own questions to it. Just let me know if you want anything like that!

It's important to have a little bit of fun with your app, and St. Patrick’s Day is a perfect opportunity to do just that! Whichever way you decide to celebrate this year, we wish you all the best, from everyone at Thrive.
